I Hate Doing This...

It looks like my niece, Carmen, inherited the Eby trait of not being able to "fake it" when doing something you don't like. Every last part of her looks annoyed and bored with her line judging duties. Love her!

Brother Deputy Travis Junior

Several months ago, while watching Reno 911 with Marc, he mentioned that he thought Deputy Travis Junior was kinda hot and I agreed that there was something about him that was appealing in a dirty, dumb, hick-kinda way.

Well, imagine how shocked I was to see photoshopped picture of my brother's face on the body of Deputy Travis Junior, because someone mentioned that my brother looked like him. Needless to say I know longer find Deputy Travis Junior appealing in that kinda way.

Momma Eby Update

I spoke with my father yesterday and he told me that my mom would be coming home from Miller's Merry Manor next Friday. My mom has been walking around the nursing home with the help of a "rollator", which is the walker pictured above with a seat, basket, and hand brakes. My dad went to the store and purchased a rollator for my mom to use at home. He walked around the house with it to ensure she could get into the doorways and rooms when she gets home. Apparently, my mom expressed some concern that she would be alone in the house when my dad is at work so they checked on getting a nurse. When the $15 an hour for the nurse was more than my dad makes, the idea ended quickly. The nursing home suggested a "Life Alert" system, you know the "Help! I've fallen and I can't get up" thing. I don't think I could take that, so I suggested she just keep the wireless phone in her rollator basket.

Miller's Merry Manor

Yesterday, my mother was transferred from Elkhart General Hospital to a nursing home in Wakarusa. Miller's Merry Manor is located about 2 miles from my childhood home and is where both my grandparents died. My mom will be going through some intense physical therapy for the next few weeks to rejuvenate her knee and back.

Today, however, is a special day for my mom and dad, as they celebrate their 49th wedding anniversary at Miller's Merry Manor. Having spent some time at the Manor, visiting my grandparents, I can safely say that there is nothing Merry about it. Happy Anniversary!

I Took Your Mom to the Hospital

My parents don't call (too expensive), unless something bad happens, like when someone dies or goes to the hospital. So whenever my cell phone displays my parents number calling me, I always tense up and fear the worst. Yesterday, my dad called to tell me that he took my mom to the hospital. Apparently, she has had massive back pain for about a week and my dad has been trying to take care of her, but it became too much for him and they called the ambulance.

My parents are getting to that age where everything starts to fall apart. My father is in his early 80s, my mom in her early 70s, and they are on tons of medications for everything under the sun, and something is always bleeding or dripping or breaking. In fact, they get some of their pills from Canada because they are cheaper, which I never would have expected my parents to do.

Anyway, my mom just had a partial knee replacement a couple of weeks ago, so I feared that she was probably limping around and did something to her back. I called my brother to see what he knew, and he was at an open house for my nephew's high school. He was sitting in class when I called, and he got called out by the teacher and he had to get off the phone pretty quickly.

He called back later and told me that I got him in trouble with the teacher, which I found quite funny. He had just spoken with dad and discovered that mom had fractured her back. She will be in the hospital for a few days then will be moved to a nursing home to recover. My mother will be milking this for all it is worth, just like I would be doing. The apple really doesn't fall too far from the tree.

Liza with a Z

I went to see "The Phantom of the Opera" at the Kennedy Center with Dan, Chuck, and Marc. Before the show started, we were in the lounge of the Opera House and I made the comment that my over-sized shirt black shirt and black pants kinda made me feel like Liza after she put on weight and made her comeback after hip surgery. Chuck told me to make a Liza pose and he snapped this picture with his Blackberry. Later, during intermission, an old lady that had been in the lounge earlier came up to me and whispered, "I enjoyed your little show earlier."

Adam, Carmen, and Becca

Who would have thunk over 15 years ago when I got the call that I was an uncle, that my brother's children would have turned out this well? He and his wife Jackie (mostly Jackie) have done a great job. Click here to read up on their family vacation in Florida.
