Sex case accused ‘asked girl to withdraw statements’

A teenager claimed today that one of the men alleged to have sold her for sex to restaurant workers in Telford asked her to withdraw statements she had made to police.

A jury at Stafford Crown Court heard that the young woman, who is now aged 18, had contact with Murbarek Ali in July last year via Facebook and mobile phone after he had been arrested.

Ali, 28, who was known to the girl as Max, and his 23-year-old brother Ahdel Ali, known as Eddie, and five other Telford men deny a series of charges involving sexual exploitation and child prostitution.

At court today the girl said she had made a subsequent statement to police in September last year, but that she had lied.

“I lied about Max and Eddie prostituting me out because Max asked me to withdraw my statement,” she claimed.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, said that everything she had initially told police was true.

The teenager is one of seven alleged victims of the offences said to have been committed between September 2007 and December 2009.
