Straight Jacket

Marcia, Tom, Kevin, Marc and I went to Hillwood Estate Gardens to see the Joan Crawford movie, "Straight Jacket."

We brought a picnic spread that included Popeye's chicken, sandwiches, and chips, grapes and cherries. Hillwood was selling beer, wine and champagne, but misjudged the drinking capacity of a gay and lesbian crowd. They ran out before the movie started.

They gave awards for best picnic spread (I can't believe we didn't win), and best Joan Crawford look-alike (the winner dressed up a skeleton), and then announced the "audience participation" award. They called up two guys, and when they got to the front, the one guy turned to the other and asked him to marry him. I thought it an odd venue for a marriage proposal, but it also made me dread to think that we are going to see a lot more of these public proposals in the next few years.

As for the movie, it was horrible, but in a campy, fun way. Just watch the first several minutes and you will get a feel for the film. It felt like I was watching the sunset of Joan Crawford's career.
