Happy Halloween y'all!!!!!!!

I'm getting old so this Halloween imma go have dinner with Shuyin and Weili and after that, imma play mahjong again!

I know right? My life is so exciting!

(Am I a prude or what? I saw some of the costumes Singaporeans are wearing and I am seriously quite shocked by the level of skimpiness. Do you think it's ok to wear a bra top or panties bottom on Halloween? Is it just me? Am I getting old and narrow-minded????????)

Kenneth in the 480

My friend, Kenneth in the 212, posted an interesting blog entry recently comparing his house in Mesa, Arizona in the late 80's when he lived there, to the house it has become with other owners. He pulled the pictures of the house today from the real estate listings, as it is for sale again.

Having visited Kenneth's house back in 1989, I found a photo of me in the kitchen comparison. Look, I had hair back then. To read Kenneth's side by side comparisons, click here.

NEW VIDEOS

I put three more videos up on YouTube yesterday for those of you who like that sort of thing.

MY NIECE'S FOOT "LIKE A VIRGIN"
This is from the band I was in when I first moved to Japan in 1993-94. "Like A Virgin" was one of our most fun songs to play. I brought the song to the group and made up the arrangement. It's not really complex. But it was a challenge to turn a disco number into something that could be played on acoustic guitars. The theme of My Niece's Foot was to be an unplugged rock band and not in any way a folk group even though we didn't have electric instruments or drums. The group was (from left to right on this video) me on bass, Emily Iarocci (vocals), Sam Flemming (guitar), Nick Wilding (guitar, violin). I don't think Sam and Nick ever really liked the banter Emily and I did on stage that much. Originally it had been their band and Emily and I joined and sorta changed things. They got used to it.

MY NIECE'S FOOT "I WALKED AWAY"
From our reunion show in Monterey, California in 1997, this is one of Sam Flemming's songs and I think it's really good and extremely commercial. If Pearl Jam or someone like that had done this song it'd have been all over Top 40 radio. If some guy on American Idol or one of those things did it now it would be a huge smash. Anyone who wants to cover it, write me and I'll give you Sam's contact info. Maybe he'll cut me in on the royalties when it's a number one.

DIMENTIA 13 "MESMERIZED"
Here is another Dimentia 13 song from the Friday Club in Chicago in 1988. Oh the hair! Oh the boots! This is from the second Dimentia 13 LP, "Mirror Mind". At the time I thought this was a hit single. Maybe it would have been in 1966 with somebody else singing. But it was 22 years too late and several semitones too off-key. That's my real hair, but I didn't normally douse it with that much cheap hairspray.

WTF?

One of my friends received the following email from his family:
From what I can tell, this election is not about black versus white, but rather it is about Islam versus the Judeo-Christian religions. B. Hussein Obama is not a Christian. When you go into the voting booth, think WWJD. If Obama gets into the Whitehouse, it's R.I.P. America.
Actually, it is much more about black versus white because the Islam stuff is crap. And another thing, perhaps RIP to your vision of America is not such a bad thing. And one more thing, White House is two words, not one.

Sarah Palin Porn

Ricky Gervais and Thandie Newton perform a reading of an upcoming Sarah Palin porn on "The Graham Norton Show." The dialogue is horrible with little nuggets like, “Take yer nuts out of your little Gucci purse, grab your noodle and act like a man.” Thank you Andi for forwarding this to me.

Americans on the 2008 Election

I love this Leslie Kritzer video on the 2008 election. Money quote, "I punched that pigeon...and I told him to listen, 'Don't you know there is a recession going on? Get back on your stoop,'" after the pigeon had picked up her fake nail off the sidewalk.

Ron Howard Travels Back in Time

I am sure most people have already seen this, but I thought it was a pretty clever celebrity endorsement for Barack Obama.

Canon scrapbook

Talk about photoshopping your ass off! I've been working on this the whole day!

Anyway I'm just gonna post random "cute" photos I took with my sponsored Canon Powershot E1. I'm not gonna go into product specs lah! Just look at the pics and judge the quality yourself!!

Eh... My initial plan for a cute scrapbook was to go to Ikea to snap photos of people's babies. Then with the second parent I asked, I was rudely shoo-ed away before I could even complete my question! So I gave up on that idea and so... No babies!

I hope you enjoy it anyway, and sorry for the lateness!

OMFG

omfgomfg!!!!!!!!! I woke up to like 2 unpleasant surprises today! First, I was supposed to go to a business meeting today which I forgot about.

So I woke up, saw Gillian's sms, and said, "What time is the meeting ah?"

Gillian said, "It's over already lah!"

Thank god they (munkysuperstar) handled it well without me and it went ok. TMD!

THEN. Cherie from Nuffnang called and asked when I am going to post up my Canon advert.

I groggily said, "Isn't it at 12am tonight?"

She said no, it is 12pm (what kinda ungodly hour is that?) and everyone's already posted except me!

AHHHHHHHRGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Panic to the max ok! I intended to spend the whole day photoshopping, and I saw the rest of the girls' entries and they all put in so much effort and they are all so good! Madness!!!!!

Please lah girls don't say things like I'm going to win can!!!?!?! I know you are mumbling under your breath "But you are what!" and it is totally ridiculous that 74 idiots* already voted for me, butttttttt........

I AM VERY STRESSED!

What if I totally suck and everyone says I suck????

Ok why am I blogging about this when I should be blogging about my scrapbook?

OK BYE.

*I know you are supporting me and I shouldn't call you an idiot but at least have some semblance of fairness, please! I haven't even posted!

Redskins-Mania

After living in DC for 17 years, thanks to Melanie and Derek, I attended my first Washington Redskins football game. Now, I am not a fan of big crowds of people, so when I saw this mob of people pushing their way into the stadium, I started to think that it would be a long afternoon. Surprisingly, we got in pretty quickly and were making our way to our seats when the game started.

The seats were great; 7 rows from the field on the end zone. We were sitting behind three brave Cleveland Brown's fans, who were taunting and being taunted by all of the Redskin fans. Lot's of talking smack; from "Shut up, at least we beat the Giants" to "Oh please, it is one of your two wins v. one of our two losses. Go back to Cleveland."

I was obsessed with the fan in the Native American headgear, who was constantly getting the crowd riled up. I also found it quite strange that while the Redskins were on offense, the announcer would "Shhhhh" the crowd and the screens would flash, "Be Quiet for Redskins' offense." I understand that the players need to hear the quarterback, but it was a bit unsettling.

Although the crowd was really into the game, the first half was rather boring. Both teams struggled offensively and the game was scoreless going into halftime. Good thing Derek rented a portable DirectTV console so we could watch other NFL games to keep us engaged.

We stayed and watched the halftime show, which consisted of hundreds of "junior cheerleaders" dancing with the Redskins' cheerleaders. I can only imagine how thrilled all those girls were to be dancing at FedEX Field.

For the second half, we went to the Club Level to watch the game in a bar, on television screens. Now, I understand the reason for this. The stadium stops serving alcohol to the peasants in the seats at the end of the 3rd quarter, and the club level does not stop until 90 minutes after the game ends.

But, as I drove Rich to the game, I was not able to participate fully in all of the drinking going on in the club level. Plus, the game actually got exciting in the second half, with a last second field goal attempt by the Browns, which would have tied the game. They missed.

I hung out a bit with some former Redskins' cheerleaders. The two to the left are thinking about dressing as Sarah Palin and Katie Couric for Halloween. To the right of me is Melanie, who gave me the ticket to the game. She has helped me a lot recently, by telling me to get "Goo Gone" to remove the glue from my fingernails.

When the game ended, I looked out of the stadium and saw that the traffic in the parking lot was not moving very quickly. That is when I was introduced to the "Fifth Quarter."

The Fifth Quarter goes on for 90 minutes in the club level after the game ends. It is a nice way to spend you time, instead of being frustrated in the traffic jam. You can hang out inside and watch game highlights or other NFL games, or you can go outside and party like you just don't care.

Outside the club level, the "Official Rock Band of the Redskins," Love Seed Mama Jump entertained the drinking and cigar smoking crowds of people. The cheerleaders joined them on stage and danced to a few songs. By the time we were ready to go, the traffic had died down a bit, and we made it home much faster than I had anticipated. It was great experience, even though I was slightly offended when Derek asked me if I knew why it was good that the punt went into the end zone.
