"Soft-Core Friday" - Say it in a tweet

For Soft-Core Friday today, I'm taking on the writing challenge from Red Writing Hood over at the new Write on Edge writer's forum. It's been a while since I have linked up there but I really liked this one.

The challenge:
This week’s assignment was simple: write a story of your choice. The catch? Write it as a tweet. Use only 140 characters – including spaces.

Here's mine.

She looked over at the dark shape sleeping beside her. She had to leave in a minute, but she didn't wake him. This was a moment just for her

Short and simple but could say a lot depending on what you add to it in your own mind.

And because it's "Soft-Core" Friday and all and what I actually wrote isn't very scandalous, I'm updating this post to include a song that cracks me up every time I hear it. My favorite line "I don't want to be loved, I just want a quickie...."  Poetry, really.  The song is pretty much crap but the comedy in the lyrics really makes me smile...

Gluttony Redefined - Red Writing Hood Friday Link Up

It's almost time for another Red Writing Hood Friday link up but since Random Girl is already committed to my wildly popular "Soft-Core Friday" series, you are getting it early. Lucky kids!

This Friday's link up challenge: Gluttony - Eating and Drinking to Excess.

My first reaction? No thanks, I don't want to write about that. But after diving into the concept a little deeper, I decided I could do something with this.

My interest was piqued after reading the trusty Wikipedia history on the term. It made me think about gluttony in a whole new way. It expanded the concept of gluttony to include five variations.

       1. Eating before the time of meals in order to satisfy the palate.
2. Seeking delicacies and better quality of food to gratify the "vile sense of taste."
3. Seeking after sauces and seasonings for the enjoyment of the palate.
4. Exceeding the necessary amount of food.
5. Taking food with too much eagerness, even when eating the proper amount, and even if the food is not luxurious.
The fifth way is worse than all others, said St. Gregory, because it shows attachment to pleasure most clearly.

And of course, the definitions instantly translated into sexual terms for me as I was reading them. In my mind, I have combined gluttony and sex  because to me, the intentions between the two are nearly identical. And I am all about intentions. And I also see a clear distinction between sex and lust but that is for a different post.

Let me explain the gluttony/sex thing. To translate the 5 specifications of gluttony into sex terms was almost too easy.

Gluttony1. Eating before the time of meals in order to satisfy the palate.
Sex: Having sex simply because you want to, not because it is the appropriate time in the relationship to do so

Gluttony2. Seeking delicacies and better quality of food to gratify the "vile sense of taste."
Sex: Always feeling the need to look for someone other than who you are with because of a sense of missing out sexually by being with one person

Gluttony3. Seeking after sauces and seasonings for the enjoyment of the palate.
Sex: Needing to constantly push boundaries, sometimes unhealthy ones, in the name of seeking greater pleasure

Gluttony4. Exceeding the necessary amount of food
Sex: Having sex almost compulsively, or being fixated on the "more" as opposed to the "enough"

Gluttony5. Taking food with too much eagerness, even when eating the proper amount, and even if the food is not luxurious.
Sex: Being needy and using sex to fill that need even if no other aspects of your needs are being fulfilled by it
And like it was stated that #5 was the "worst" in relation to gluttony, I also think that #5 is the "worst" in relation to sex because you are eagerly consuming something that provides no pleasure for the sake of having it.

I'm not sure if that was exactly what they were after when asking us to take on Gluttony, but I never have been one to follow rules. Plus, most everything I write comes back to what I know and right now, it just is what it is.

Jealousy - Red Writing Hood Friday link up

It's almost time for another Red Writing Hood Friday link up but since I got it done early and just want to have fun with my "Soft-core Friday" posts on Friday, I am posting this to Random Girl a little ahead of time. Deal with it.

I am having a lot of fun taking on these writing prompts and this weeks prompt was a good one: JEALOUSY

There were a million ways I thought about going on this one but just a moment at the park while *watching my princess play in the sunshine this week told me exactly what I am most jealous of. Hope you enjoy!

Jealousy

I look at her with envy
She bounces effortlessly
From here to there
Captivating all who see her

Her smile shines
And her eyes sparkle
They are the perfect shade of blue

Her long blonde hair
Reflecting the rays of the sun
Looks almost like a halo
For the angel that she is

But it is more than her smile
Or her perfect blue eyes
It is her open heart
Her love that comes with no conditions
The joy that surrounds her

The freedom of loving
Without knowing hurt
Believing what she has been told
And knowing she is worthy

I am jealous
of her beautiful heart
of her true belief
of her joyful spirit
Because I want it too

*edit made to clarify the inspiration as being my princess after first 5 comments made. Seemed to be a little ambiguity about who the subject was so I wanted to clear it up.

Fighting Words - Red Writing Hood Friday Link Up

The Friday link up for Red Writing Hood is an awesome concept: Fighting Words

The goal was to capture the feeling, describe what was said, what happened as a result. Here is my take on it.

Fighting Words

We have had this argument so many times in the last year that it is almost like we are working from a script. He’ll say this. I’ll say that.  On and on it goes. Always with the same result; frustration and little else.

We used to have this argument with a great amount of enthusiasm, yelling, doors slamming, name calling. We used to really get into the theatrics of it. It was almost like a pressure release for us to just throw all of our energy into the production. The words weren’t as important as the intensity.

Now it’s different. We assume our positions on opposite sides of the room, facing each other but still able to steal a glance at the TV when the argument lulled from one of us forgetting our “line” to keep it going on pace. It didn’t even really matter anymore. He still says this. I still say that. Neither one of us really cares what the other has to say.  It is just an exercise in futility at this point.

It ends like most of them do now. One of us eventually says “I don’t really have anything else to say” and we go our separate ways. I head upstairs to the bedroom and crawl into our king size bed alone. He goes down to the basement where he will fall asleep on the couch yet again. I know this because it has been this way for the last three months at least.  The problem has been around much longer than that.

Tonight, here we go again. We are both exhausted as we assume our defensive stances and the conversation starts. His says this. I say that. On and on we go. Neither one of us having the energy left to pretend to be angry, we just want it to end. To not have to close another day out with this feeling of being so tired of our situation. To either fix it or end it, but not keep living in it.

But we are both out of anger. We don’t have the hurt fueling us to be passionate towards each other, even about an argument. The fight has just been used up.

I tell him I don’t have anything else to say.  I begin my ascent up the stairs, prepared to go to bed alone yet again.  But he’s not done yet. He says it. He says the one thing that he knows will put an end to it all.
It stops me dead in my tracks. I turn around to face him and it’s not anger, but almost relief that overcomes me. I tell him that I am glad that he finally had the nerve to say what he had really been thinking all along. I had been waiting for that. I had been waiting for him to tell me truth.

I tell him that I will finish packing in the morning and then I will be gone, and I continue my climb up the stairs to the empty bed that is waiting for me. Exhausted but now relieved that we won’t have to have that conversation ever again.

Letter to My Deepest Darkest Fear - Red Writing Hood Friday Link Up

The Friday link up at Red Writing Hood was an awesome one! They gave two options to pick from but there was no debating for me, I had to go with this one.

The first one can be written as non-fiction from your point of view or fiction from your character's point of view. It is to "write a formal complaint letter to your deepest, darkest fear"

How awesome is that idea?!? I love it!

Here is my letter to my deepest darkest fear.

4/22/11

To My Fear of Losing My Daughter:

This letter is in regards to your constant presence in the back of mind despite my continued requests for you to vacate the premises immediately.

You have not obtained the proper permissions to reside in my thoughts yet from the day that I found out I was pregnant, you have made yourself at home and I find your constant presence unsettling and most unwanted. Your attempts to create worry and fear of loss have robbed me of moments of joy and have taken up valuable space where memories of smiles and giggles should be stored.

I have tried to be reasonable towards your occupancy but I can no longer tolerate your intrusive, unwarranted attacks on my happy thoughts and loving moments. You constantly tell me that I can’t protect her, I can’t be by her side every moment of every day, and that accidents happen. You yell that I can’t control the situation and that if someone wants to hurt her or take her from me, I am too weak to prevent it. You take great satisfaction in knowing the worry and fear that you create for me.

If am to truly enjoy each moment that I have with her and to live with love and happiness, I must demand  your immediate removal from the premises. If you choose to disregard this demand, I will be forced to firebomb your dwelling with obscene amounts of faith, happiness, and joy.

This will be your one and only notice.

Sincerely,

You fucking know who I am
