Delaware Pride

On a last minute whim, Daren and I decided to make our way to Rehoboth Beach for the weekend. When I called our friend Richard to crash at his place, he told us that it was Delaware Pride. As soon as we arrived in Rehoboth, we made our way to the festivities, which were being held in the beach parking lot.

As you could imagine, there was a little bit of everything for everyone. The local gay video store had a "wheel of fortune" that people would spin to see what they won. Many were disappointed when they did not land on the space, "gay porn." Well, at least I was.

These two beautiful ladies were staffing the transgendered table. I felt a little sorry for them, as no one was coming up to talk to them. I don't understand transgendered people, but I think they are incredibly brave and support their efforts to be happy and live a fulfilled life. But come on, a swim suit with jeans?

Of course, what would gay pride be without your drag queens. Those individuals that don't want to live as a woman, but enjoy dressing up like one to lipsynch and dance in front of a crowd for tips and to enter drag pageants to become titleholders.

As Daren and I were walking around, we came upon this clown. At first, we thought that he was performing so we stopped and watched before realizing we was just packing up his car. For those who know me, you know that clowns scare me a bit. So I was looking at the clown with some apprehension when he looked up, and in a voice that sounded eerily close to Harvey Fierstein, he said, "It's a living."

But the highlight of Delaware Pride, for me, was the following introduction of the headlining performer.
"You may remember her from her hits "Lookout Weekend" and "When I Hear Music" in 1984 when she was 16 years old. She is currently recognized as the queen of freestyle and when she's not 'rocking' on the weekends, she's busy doing hair at the Paradigm Salon & Spa located near route 9 and 25, south of Philly. If you want to get your hair done by a legend, go see her at Paradigm. Ladies and gentleman, I am pleased to introduce your headliner Debbie Deb."

Debbie Deb then delighted Delaware Pride with three songs that sounded exactly alike, only the lyric changed. I had never heard of Debbie Deb, but her songs did sound somewhat familiar.
