Pope Benedict XVI will visit Washington, DC for three days in April, a Vatican spokesman announced yesterday, the first time a pope will be in the capital since 1979. Tens of thousands are expected to celebrate Mass with him in the new Nationals baseball stadium.
The last time I saw the pope was in
Denver in 1993. He was there for some huge World Youth Rally, and I was there with my friend Gary visiting our friend David. It was crazy. Everyone in Denver was selling t-shirts, posters, calendars, and foam pope hats. We bought a hat and I made Gary put it on in front of the catholic church so I could get a picture and tell people that I saw the pope.
