Chicago: Sushi, Sake, and Seismic Activity

The first stop was on the K40 Birthday Trip was Chicago. We stayed at the Four Seasons on the top floor thanks to our friend Dave who was able to hook us up. The views of Chicago from our room were incredible and it was a nice way to start our trip.

We had dinner reservations at 9pm, so we decided to walk around Rush Street to find a bar to get our evening started. We landed at The Hunt Club, which is described as a "gritty pick-up bar for singles" and we tried to get Marcia lucky, but she wanted nothing to do with it.

A little before 9pm we cabbed over to Sushi Wabi for dinner. It is a small sushi restaurant in the trendy food district on Randolph Street. Our table was not ready when we arrived, so we went to the tiny bar and had champagne and vodka to pass the time. Our table was high-jacked by a group that had the check on the table from the time we walked in and had not paid for 35 minutes. Finally, the hostess went up to them and told them to pay up and leave so we could be seated. They acted all indignant about it. Come on, you were finished over 45 minutes ago. That said, it was worth the wait, as it was some of the best sushi I have ever tasted.

After sushi and sake, we cabbed over to Boystown to do the gay bar crawl. We started at Sidetracks, which has expanded since the last time I was there and it is always a good time. Then we headed over to Roscoe's, where we met this birthday girl.

She told Ralph and I that we didn't look like we were 40 (for the record, Ralph is 42) and we showed her our anti-aging secrets.

We then walked across the street to Cocktail, which has also been remodeled since the last time I was in Chicago. By this point, we had had a mix of whiskey, champagne, vodka, and beer, so things started to get a little out of hand. Cocktail had some go-go boys performing and a relaxed, laid back atmosphere. At 1:30am, Marcia and I decided to head back to the hotel and we left the rest of the boys to continue their steamy night.

The next morning we all were feeling a little rough, so we went to the Original Pancake House for breakfast and then walked around and did some shopping. Well, Marcia and Tom did a little shopping, we just stood outside and looked annoyed.

The window display at Barney's did catch my eye. I think it is the first time that I saw a gay-themed window display. And while we were looking at the display, I heard a woman walk by and tell her friend that she felt the earthquake at 4:30 am that morning. We all looked at each other and laughed, we all slept right thought it. Well most of us were sleeping, some were still out. It was a very fun 24 hours in Chicago.
