Final Stop--Indianapolis

After sleeping in until 12:30 pm, we checked out of the hotel, and drove to the Bloomington town square. The county courthouse is made with limestone, like almost every other building in Bloomington. In college, we used to drive out to the limestone quarries and go swimming, like in the movie "Breaking Away." That was until we heard that Westinghouse Electric had dumped the highly toxic chemical PCB in the quarries in the 60s and 70s before it was banned by the federal government. I blame my hair loss on the PCBs.

We ate brunch at one of my favorite restaurants in Bloomington, the Uptown Cafe. It is designed like an old school jazz club with tin ceilings. You can tell by this picture that we were not quite awake from our night out.

After brunch, we drove to our final destination, Indianapolis. We checked into the Westin Hotel, where Ralph decided to take a little nap because he was not feeling well. The rest of us left the hotel and walked around Indy.

We paid the $1 to ride the elevator to the top of the Soldier's and Sailor's Monument in the center of Indianapolis. The observation deck was small and stuffy, so Tom could not wait to get back down.

We walked by some of the other parks and monuments in Indy, before deciding to head down to Massachusetts Avenue where Metro Bar is located.

Metro is one of the most popular bars in town, and is your typical old school gay bar, with a dark wood bar downstairs, an outdoor patio, and a large dance floor with pool tables upstairs.

Every drink seemed to be on special, so we had long island ice teas, bloody mary's, beer, and redbull and vodka while playing our favorite trivia game. We play this game in every bar and if we place in the top ten, we always type in DCBOYZZZZZZ. So if you ever see that name on of these trivia machines, you will know that either Ralph, Mike, Tom, Marcia or I have been there.

After Metro we went to dinner at English Ivy's, a gay bar and restaurant. In the bar area they were watching "Desperate Housewives" and hooting and hollering like it was the best thing on television. After dinner, Marcia decided to call it a night and the boys went on to Talbott Street for the drag show. I could not believe that some of same drag performers were there 15 years ago. We all had crushes on the doorman and the bartender and a few of the guys that were there. The place started to clear out around 12:00am, so we decided to head back to the hotel to wrap up my birthday trip. It was a lot of fun and I am glad that some of my friend's got to experience my life before moving to DC. They were all very good sports.
